New DJI Inspire 1.

That is just too sexy.

In my mind, there's 2 types of innovation - the 'look, it can be done" vs let's put it all together and make the experience user friendly.

If this allows you to use your own tx, I'll buy it.

it won't   Its a completely closed system, the TX is the ground station for the light bridge HD FPV system

@ $US2899, its a bargain when you look at all that you get

Expected price AU is $4140.

I wonder if the controller can be converted to mode 1?

whats mode 1?

I suspect both gimbals will be sprung, and they claim the radio functions are customisable so you may be able to convert it

Maybe we should move this to its own thread?  Admin????  Maybe?

The last time I was actually this interested in a model, was when I first saw the Faifa.

I just love the design!

Ok well yes this one has me very interested as well, one assumes they've resolved the ghost flyaway issue the some Phantom's have suffered? I do realise we are dealing with some very suffisticated electronics/communications here and sometimes stuff just goes wrong, not to mention the human error factor, hopefully coming reviews will establish this machine as rock solid.
What would be the best type of screen to use, iPads, tablets etc are mentioned but how do these devices handle the outside sunlight and glare etc, what are people using these days?

As a general rule most newish tablets and phones handle bright sunlight with ease (you know the iconic lying in the sun playing with your table and wearing sunnies lifestyle promotion).

While I'm very tempted, I'd prefer to see what bugs get ironed out over time.

Apparently the flyaway issue didn't affect DJIs expensive flight controllers, just some of the lower cost ones? It seems like there's a new flight controller / integrated in this one?

The Fly-away issue... still pops up
As to display, the Tx has an HDMI output, so its either a tablet/phone via wifi or goggles with HDMI input

The video downlink is from the gimballed camera, so its more for the camera operator to "get the shot" rather than FPV flying

However the phone app seems to indicate a terrain view with both quad orientation, AND camera orientation. Which unless you fly out of sight (illegal?) it should be plenty info for the mind to wrap around and bring it back safely, manually even.

Don't forget, every mini quad today seems to have terrible aerodynamics in forward flight. This quads profile is more akin to a speed heli, which means forward flights presents aerodynamically similar over a wide range of AoA.

Therefore, I too am very interested in how it performs stock, with maybe a few prop configurations for efficiency vs balls out FPV. And how easy it is to remove the 4k + gimbal assembly and possible make my own simple FPV mount

there is a whole range of racing quads out there with streamlined profiles

you won't be able to change things on the inspire, its not for that market. The props are set, the internal camera wiring is loomed in, you buy it and use it as is. You will have to use dedicated lipos for it even.

You guys should have a very careful read of the tech specs for it on the DJI website

max tilt/roll angle 35 degrees for example. This is designed as a stable, slow camera platform. It won't be going anywhere fast.

It is designed form ground up as an easy to use camera platform for people who cannot fly anything RC, don't want to mess around with stuff, buy it, charge it, take photos or video...

It even has an auto take-off function. hit a button and it raises it eye height and holds position over the launch spot. Hit another button to land...

The TX has a GPS module, so it even tells the thing if "home" has changed

Deet, I've read them. I don't think there's enough info at the moment.

Are you sure the props cannot be swapped to say a t-motor one? Maybe an adaptor in between? Or else how would you change a 'permafixed' broken prop?

Proprietary battery? Sure happy to, if it does all those things they say it does. We have to admit, it's an elegant solution to RC, making it almost as safe to use as the Lipos in our laptops, so why not?

Max tilt roll, got that. Is there a manual mode, that can be enabled but is normally locked out for other users? Hoping there is, if not, I'm happy with 35. I've never gotten any joy in FPV flipping a quad, tic tocs on a heli - the fun is forward, and speed. I would go planks as the winner in both, except for the fact that landings are always easier on a quad.

There is literally nothing wrong with auto-takeoff, or land, or GPS in Tx that talks to the machine - to me they all sound like good things even for seasoned pilots.

Sometimes I think a lot of hot air reminds me of the old rate gyro religious "who needs heading hold? Learn to fly like a real man" mentality.

We're lucky DJI is making it easy for the masses. If it weren't for them, we'd be such a unheard of minority, well be regulated to oblivion by now.

Note: not sponsored by DJI. In fact I could think of nicer 3 letter acronyms.
