Wingbag Mini Review
« on: July 31, 2013, 09:35:55 AM »
After seeing Faaster's Wingbag for his TDR I decided to contact the maker and get a quote for two bags; one for my Goblin 700 and one for my Goblin 500. I already had an Align 700 bag for the G700 and it is a good fit and a well made bag. Because the G500 is a unique sized heli I wanted something bespoke to fit its dimensions correctly for a snug fit.
I used the online contact form and sent my enquiry about custom sized bags, first using Google translate to convert English to German. I did not receive a reply for 6 weeks and so sent another request, this time in English. Communication was one area that I found frustrating as long delays between questions being asked by me and then sent again before a reply was received. I won't hammer on about this as in the end my order was fulfilled but I think it is important for any prospective buyers to go in with an understanding of this as it will ease any frustrations you may have.

Once communications had begun I supplied sizes of each model and was quoted prices for each bag. Optionally I could add printing on the side of the bag of the Goblin logo.
I was informed that the Con Pearl Plastic base plate would not be offered due to the large size making shipping costs very high. However they would supply a full size template for each bag so one could be cut locally (they did not supply this).
From the date of payment to delivery was close to three months which was longer than the 6 - 8 weeks first quoted. The reasons given for this was a high workload, floods in Germany and a shortage of the inner green material.
The bag and stitching quality is excellent. The material is a lot softer than the Align bag which means it will not deflect soft blows as well but also makes the bags seem a little smaller. The Align zipper is also chunkier and less likely to jam but the Wingbag zipper doesn't seem cheap at all. It is a single zip pull as apposed to a double pull on the Align bag.
On the Wingbag website the pictures show the inner material is quilted however you will see by my photos that my bags do not have this quilting done.
Balance of the bags are not perfect and they fall forward when picked up by the handles. Having these handles set about 7 cm futher forward should fix this so if you are ordering I would recommend discussing this with them. I did see Faaster mentioned this but forgot about it when ordering. The Align bag does balance very well from the handled. The Wingbag handles are quite thin in comparison to the Align and do not have the extra velcro wrap around on the handle that the Align bag does.

Here's the costs:

Goblin 700 bag - €95
Goblin 500 bag - €83
Custom printing - €25 each
Shipping - €40

good accurate write up , but they do look very sexy in that 2nd pic :)

I love mine but would i go through the hassle again , dont know .

funny that i got the same flood and lack of the inner green material email 6 months earlier,  must be very wet over there and i did have to send a lot of emails to get them moving .

BTW i also forgot to tell you that i asked for twin zippers as i heard they only come with one , sorry my bad

Did you ever get base plates made up? I wasn't going to but I can tell already that the skids will wear through the material pretty quickly.

The wingbag is much softer than the Revo bag
In term of weight and toughness, from heavy and tough to light and soft in order
SAB Goblin Bag
Align Bag
Revo Bag
WingBag

Honestly, I doubt the wing bag will last very long with heavy use especially with a loaded 700 heli.

The revo bags seem to be made out of similar material to the Align bags, but not quite as heavy gauge so not as stiff. Revo bags also seem to bit a little less shaped as apposed to the Align bag and of course the Wingbag being that it is custom cut.

I agree that without a hard baseplate the Wingbag would soon wear out but with a baseplate it should last pretty well.

Hey astr0b0y, they sure do look good, and thanks to the others for your info also. Shame about not getting the lining you were hoping for and shame on the supplier for not doing the job right, and for not sending you the template as promised.

Id like to get a nice carry bag for my Beam 600 eventually, but im also considering converting it to a scale heli. Im wondering if any members have had bags made up locally and possibly sourced from Upholsterer's? Id have thought this may be another option and i will certainly try this path, but have any others tried this?
