Tarot 450 flybarless head problem
« on: April 08, 2012, 08:22:56 PM »
I have a tarot 450 flybarless head for my trex 450 (and copterx 3x1000!!) but I have a LOT of slop in the grips.
I am able to move them up and down a considerable amount, so much so that on a descend (when there's no load on the disk) the whole heli will shake and shudder.

I had a proper look at them tonight and found that my feathering shaft is too short. The blade grip holder has two bearings in it before the thrust bearing. The second (outer) bearing sits on the stepped down outer 4mm section of the feathering shaft. It should be further in, with only the thrust bearing on this stepped down part. This is what is causing the slop in the head.

Here is the head I have: http://www.hobby-wing.com/tarot-450-metal-head-rotor-flybarless.html
The first issue was the turnbuckles it came with, not only do they appear to be threaded wrong, one end was bigger than the other. Got rid of them and used some standard trex 450 flybarless linkage rods.
I've measured the feathering shaft and it is 51mm long from end to end. If it was 59mm long from end to end it looks like it would work.

Has anyone else heard of something like this? Is there a solution or do I need a new flybarless head :(

I've got a Tarot FBL head for my 250 and I was amazed how much movement there is in the grips on it too.  It hasn't flown yet, and might not even, and I plan to pull it apart and check just what's going on.
I'm not at all impressed with the quality, way below Align quality for sure, and the head button has "Taort" (spelt like that) then "250 Nitro Limited Edition" etched on it. Ridiculous that no-one checked that!
I guess you get what you pay for.

Hi Kwikee,

I also have the tarot 250 FBL head, after a lot of mucking around I have it flying and fly well, it appears to me that the feathering shaft is too long, or the bearings are too thin. Anyhow I resolved it by using 4 spacers from a 450 feathing shaft, you would think they were disigned for the job.
