Worth upgrading to slant gears?
« on: April 07, 2017, 03:27:56 PM »

I have a older Trex 550e that has the straight cut gears. A few people have said it performs better and the gears last longer if they are upgraded. Is it worth the trouble? Means most of the internal gears and pinion need to be replaced.

Unless you are into very hard 3D I do not think that this is worthwhile. Just check that your straight gear meshing is ok (~ a cig paper width) and your gears should last for a long time imho.

Thanks mate,  I don't fly hard so I'll stick with the standard gears,  be too much messing around if I upgrade.

I found my 550 worked well. It was definitely quieter in the air as you would expect and it took longer to wear down

I binned it last week and stripped all the gears but I couldn't justify the helical gears,  they cost 3 times as much=(

use cheap straight cut gears until they no longer make straight cut gears
